Everything began with the task to create 3 houses of the City Schwerin based on photos with 3 LoDs.
At that point the Unity Game engine was out with Version 2.6 without a LoD System, what gave me the opportunity to try to write a script that works as a simple LoD System. Together with a second scripter this ended in two scripts, one for a second threat for magaing distances from the player to the houses and sending this the LoD-level to the second script, instanced on every house, for Changing the mesh of the house.
I also was one of six teamleaders in this project, responsible for two texture artists and one 2D/3D artist.
During this project I learned how important communication with other teams is, and also that something tiny like naming of files can result in somthing apocaliptic at the end. So I got to know how necessary, good planing and organisation are for bigger projects.
These are two houses I made from scratch, based on Photos for textures.
Here are some captures from the Result in the engine.
Because of the basic idea as a commercial an Information and Map System was planned, but this got removed for the presentation at the exams.
Overall there are 2GB of Textures and 181 houses with 3 LoDs that were build by 24 persons, in only one month.
